FAQs
What does adding a discount to a price table do?
Adding a discount reduces the price of one or more line items or the entire price table in QuoteCloud. Discounts lower line totals and subtotals, and the price table automatically updates line totals, subtotals, and overall totals so your quote reflects the final discounted amount.
How do I add a discount column to a QuoteCloud price table?
Open the price table in the table editor and enable or add a discount column. Once the column is present you can enter discount values for individual rows or set a table-level discount. The price table recalculates totals automatically when discount values change, making this quick to use in your sales quoting software or sales proposal software.
How do I apply a discount to a single line item?
Select the row you want to discount and enter the discount in the discount column. QuoteCloud accepts either a percentage (for example, 10%) or a fixed amount (for example, $100). The line total and the quote's overall totals will recalculate immediately.
Can I apply a discount to the entire price table instead of one line item?
Yes. You can set a table-level discount that reduces the subtotal for the entire price table. This single discount is applied before taxes and additional charges so the whole quote is affected consistently, which is useful when creating proposals or quote documents for a client.
What types of discounts are supported?
QuoteCloud supports percentage-based discounts (for example, 10% off) and fixed-value discounts (for example, $100 off). This flexibility lets you choose the right discount type for each situation when using QuoteCloud as your quote software or proposal software.
Can I set a default discount for a discount column?
Yes. You can configure a default value for the discount column so new line items (or new tables that use that column) inherit the default discount. Defaults save time when your business commonly applies the same discount and can still be overridden per line item as needed.
How do discounts affect taxes, shipping, and additional charges?
Discounts reduce line totals and the subtotal that taxes and additional charges are calculated from. Table-level discounts are applied before taxes and extra charges, so the taxed amount reflects the discounted subtotal. Always preview the quote totals to confirm tax and shipping calculations appear as expected.
Best practices for using discounts in sales quoting and proposal software
Use percentage discounts for proportional promotions and fixed-value discounts for one-off markdowns, set sensible defaults for frequently used discounts, prefer a table-level discount for global promotions, and document discount reasons in the quote notes. Before sending a quote from your quote software or proposal software, preview totals and ensure discounts sync correctly with your accounting or integrations.
