FAQs
What does adding a line item to a price table mean?
Adding a line item inserts a new row into a QuoteCloud price table to represent a specific product, service, or cost. Each line typically includes a description, quantity, unit price and a calculated total so clients see itemized pricing.
This is a core capability of modern sales quoting software and sales proposal software — it helps you build clear, professional quotes and proposals that customers can review and accept.
How do I add a line item manually in QuoteCloud?
Open the price table editor and click the Add Line Item (or Add Row) button. A blank row appears where you type the product or service name, enter quantity and unit price, add notes or descriptions, then save the change.
Use the display and formatting controls to adjust how the item appears on the final quote or proposal — for example showing or hiding columns, changing currency formatting, or adding unit descriptions.
Can I add products directly from the product library instead of typing them in?
Yes. You can import items from your product library so predefined names, prices, descriptions and other saved fields are pulled in automatically. This eliminates manual typing and speeds up quote creation.
Using the product library is a best practice for quote software and proposal software because it reduces data-entry errors and keeps pricing consistent across documents.
What happens to subtotals, taxes, and discounts after I add or edit a line item?
The price table updates automatically when you add or edit line items: subtotals, taxes and any discounts recalculate in real time so totals remain accurate while you build pricing.
To ensure accuracy, confirm that tax codes and discount rules are set correctly for each item before finalizing the quote or proposal.
Can I group or organize line items for better readability?
Yes — you can organize line items to improve readability by using section headings, categories, or ordering the rows in the price table editor and making use of formatting controls. Grouping related products and services makes quotes easier for clients to scan and increases chances of acceptance.
Consistent grouping combined with clear descriptions is especially helpful when using sales quoting software for complex proposals or multi-service projects.
Can I change how a line item appears on the final quote or proposal?
Yes. QuoteCloud provides display and formatting controls that let you show or hide columns, change currency formatting, and add or remove unit descriptions so each line item appears exactly as you want on the final document.
These options help you tailor quotes generated by your quote software or proposal software to match your brand and the level of detail your clients need.
How do I edit an existing line item after it has been added?
Open the price table editor, select the line item you want to change, update fields such as description, quantity, unit price or notes, and then save. The table will recalculate totals, taxes and discounts automatically after you edit the item.
Editing is useful for quick corrections or when you need to adjust pricing during negotiations without rebuilding the entire quote.
What are best practices for adding line items in QuoteCloud?
Use the product library to pull in predefined items and pricing, keep descriptions concise and client-focused, apply correct tax codes and discount rules, and use grouping or section headers for complex quotes. These steps reduce errors and speed up document creation.
Following these practices makes your quotes and proposals more professional and leverages the strengths of sales quoting software and proposal software to close deals faster.
